                                FIREBIRD, Penguin Group, Publisher, 2009
    In mythology, we will be comparing different mythologies from around the world.  One of the unifying characters is the trickster.  Please read the preface and introduction to the book.  Choose four stories (not the poetry), and read them several times.  Take detailed notes on all your readings, and be prepared to discuss the stories, retell the stories, and/or create a project based on the stories on the first day of class.

    When reading the book, look at the relationships between fathers and sons, fathers and fathers, and how they are all affected by the racism and segregation of South Africa at the time.  How had apartheid affected South African Christianity?  Take notes as you read.  Bring questions and comments to class.
