Religious Studies/Campus Ministry Department
The Religious Studies/Campus Ministry Department exists to educate in faith so that students are able to gain knowledge and discern Truth as the foundation to live as caring members of society and followers of Jesus Christ. Members work diligently to challenge individuals and the school community to live out their faith through commitment and personal witness as well as through acts of justice, compassion, and service.
The Department aims to teach, encourage, support, nurture and direct students to a more mature understanding of his/her Catholic Christian heritage and to educate others in the Catholic Christian faith and Tradition. The curriculum is designed so that the study of the Hebrew and Christian scriptures, Church tradition, and the sacraments, is the foundation for further study, understanding the paschal mystery, and active participation in opportunities for faith development. Students are encouraged to integrate the academics with their lived experience, to be role models for others, to participate in prayer and worship services, to make good moral choices, and to reach out in service to others consistent with the mission of the Church and Cardinal Spellman High School. There are retreat experiences at each grade level and a 25-hour Christian Service graduation requirement.
