It's time for the Spring Sports wrap up! Congratulations to all of our teams that have worked so hard this season!
The boys track team finished with a record of 8 wins, 0 loses, and 1 tie in the Catholic Central League clinching the title of CCL Co-Champions. Junior Mike Bowen remained undefeated in the 800 and has been an intricate part of the 4x400 relay team. Jumpers Issiah Donahue, Charlie Norton and Dan D’Ambrosio were among the league’s best. Junior Will McAlpine led the league in the Javelin, with a throw just a few feet short of the school record.
A young girls track team had a successful season with a record of 6-3. Senior Jay Stallings led the sprinters to individually qualify for States. Junior Courtney Gryzbinski remained undefeated in the mile and two-mile. Sophomores Madison Frye, Taylor Nicholson, Emma Gryzbinski, Morgan Oliveira and Olivia Murphy were also consistent point scorers for the Cardinals.
Baseball played a good season, with the team ecstatic for next year. They said goodbye to six seniors, leaving the team open for new growth in the coming season. Leading the team offensively are Matt Cahill and Dan Phillips. Jack Grafton also came through with a strong pitching performance.
The softball team played aggressively with Brenna Sullivan pitching every game and performing as one of the teams leading hitters. Captain Olivia Dandrow has been a defensive star in centerfield, and Chloe Kelly has been great at shortstop and has had many clutch hits for the Lady Cardinals.
A very young golf team has battled through a tough season in an experienced league, improving with every match. Captain Caroline Bavis played exceptionally for the team and has qualified for state tournament play.
The young girls lacrosse team continues to improve in every aspect of the game. Captain Laura Sexton has been the backbone of the defense causing a huge amount of turnovers this season. Freshman Kathryn Lysko has been one of the most consistent players and sophomore Marj Tobin continues to be an offensive standout scoring the 100th goal of her career against Arlington Catholic in the 16th game of the season.
The boys lacrosse improved massively over the course of the season. This year’s team is led by a trio of captains senior goalie Sean Barry, junior attackman/midfielder Rocky Grillone, and junior midfielder Steve McBrine. Rocky leads the team in goals, assists and ground balls. Three freshmen Zach McBrine, Ryan McDonough, and Tyler Hrenko all start for the Cardinals and first year player Senior Tom McSweeney has been an immediate contributor.
A young Boys Tennis team fought some tough matches in the Catholic Central Leauge. Their determination makes them a strong contender for next year. Tyler Bobbin represents as the team’s first singles player and is one of the top players in the league. Freshmen duo Cameron Colburn and Joe O’Reilly have played well for the team as well as strong singles performances from Junior Captain Diego Gonzalez-Tellez, and Sophomores Brendan Wylie and Tim Pozerski.
The girls tennis team ended a competitive season with many new players. Freshmen Ella Mesheau has been a top performer in singles matches and doubles duo Sneat Meressi and Sabreenah Boregard have had some great victories. Julia Ambrose, Vicotria Russo, and Elaine Rodrigues all had strong performances for the Cardinals throughout the season.
