Bruce Thompson '63 Idealism, Gratitude and Paying Forward an
Education that Lasts a Lifetime

Dear Fellow Cardinals,
I have been blessed with a rewarding career as an educator and clinician in the fields of social work and public health – fields that resonate with the values that were instilled by the pioneering Sisters of Saint Joseph at Cardinal Spellman – values that emphasize the worth and dignity of every person, diversity, and socially responsible self-determination. The sisters also imparted a love of scholarship that has served me well over the years.
Although I am fortunate to be in a position to support President Hodes’ Rooted. Growing. Thriving. Campaign, I wanted to do more. Being at that tender age of Life Review and Estate/Legacy Planning – and aware of the President’s Campaign – I felt compelled to step up and do my part to continue the tremendous contribution that Spellman has made to lives of the students and families of Southeastern
Massachusetts. It was an opportunity for me to pay it forward – to care for and about the generations to come. It gives me pleasure to make a gift in tribute to the Pioneer Sisters of Cardinal Spellman High School.
I hope that my story of support will inspire other Spellman alumni, who look back on their time at Spellman fondly, to consider a similar gift. If not a gift to the campaign to support today’s Spellman but instead or in addition to, a planned gift, so that future generations of Cardinals can benefit from an education and community that has influenced my life in boundless ways.
